Matchday 5 @ Michigan Hawks Magic
Recapping what we learned as a team yesterday, and what we need to work on in training -
Forwards in the 4-4-2 need to stay connected
Wide mids in the 4-4-2 need to tuck in when we’re defending
We need to take better care of the ball once we win possession
We need work on what needs to be done in the last 10 minutes of the game when we’re down a goal
Forwards need work on runs in the box when wingers are attacking goal - specifically when the crosser is close to goal
Forwards need work on holding the ball under pressure and link play
Local forecast is wet, and it’s shaping up to be a battle later this morning in less-than-ideal conditions. Slick turf surface will be a bit new to us and might take a bit of getting used to.
The plan will be to continue working on our 4-4-2 formation today, and see if we can bring our second half performance from yesterday for the full game today.
Our game is at 10AM, and I booked a 2PM flight home. Might be cutting things a bit close and might jump on the plane soaked, but whatever.
With the rainy forecast, the girls had instructions to be on site and ready to go at 9:30AM. Typically, I’d have the girls there an hour before kickoff, and begin an official warm-up 45 min prior to the scheduled game start time. Didn’t want them out in the rain for that long, so the plan today was for a more compact warm-up.

Left the hotel around 8AM to grab a glorious Pecan Roll and coffee from Panera, refuel the rental in prep for the post-game mad dash to the airport, and meditate on the coming game.
It was coming down pretty hard, but the extended forecast for the morning looked to be clearing up.
That would be nice.
After thinking on things, I changed my mind about the formation. The Hawks coaches had seen our 4-4-2, and were likely going to be prepping their second team on how we played. Decided to throw whatever wrench I could into their plans, and committed to our 4-3-3 formation.
Looks like we may catch a break with the weather, and find a gap in the rain moving through the area.
This is a game we should win.
