One Really Crappy Weekend
Tough news this weekend for the team.
Izzy got checked during a hockey game on Saturday and broke her arm and, according to the ER doc, will be in a cast for 6-8 weeks. She will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon this week to find out what she can and can’t do when it comes to physical activities.
Then Sunday during our scrimmage with the MTA 08 ECNL team, Siena went for a loose ball in the 08’s penalty box and got in an unlucky 50/50 challenge with one of their center backs. She had to be helped off the field and couldn’t put any weight on her right leg. I’m really worried this might be a serious knee injury, but we’ll find out more this week with x-rays and probably an MRI.
Geez.
Really tough blows for the 2 girls, really tough blow for the team as if I had to name a starting 11 in my mind, both girls would for sure be in our backline. As I think back to last year, these 2 were assuredly in the top 3 when it came to most minutes played.
I obviously feel bad for the girls. From a parent’s perspective, imagining how I would feel if something like this happened to Livi, I feel for the parents as well.
From a team perspective, this hurts us.
A lot.
We don’t have a full-time GK. I was counting on solid defending to keep us competitive against the Midwest Conference powerhouses we will face early this fall, and Siena and Izzy were key parts of that plan.
Been depressed all morning. We’ve put SO much work in already in such a short time. We open up against what could turn out to be the team we’ll battle most with for the Midwest Conference - West title, and we’ll be down 2 studs.
Not to mention that we will face arguably the top team in the Midwest Conference the following week (Eclipse Select from IL), then the always-title-contenders Hawks from MI the next.
I’m going to have to put some serious thought into what formation is going to give us the best chance of staying competitive, and which players are going to need to be placed where.
Sigh…
