Online Video Analysis - USWNT vs Brazil
Online Training | Tuesday, Aug 10 | 7:00PM - 8:00PM
Up at 4AM, and just finished editing and uploading the video from last night’s zoom session with the girls.
I’m a HUGE proponent of video, and video analysis.
Not only is the zero time burden on the parents (referring to getting kids to and from a field training session), but also there is SO much that can be covered with the girls in a short time. I always say that a 20-30 min video session is worth more than 4-5 field training sessions.
Here’s a list of what we touched on last night in a 30-min Zoom session with the girls -using a 7-minute highlight clip.
Kickoff goes forward
First 5 minutes we play in their half
Speed dribbling
Visual communication - pointing where you want the ball
Slotted through balls
Midfielders arriving late into pockets of space around the box
We never want our midfielders flat with our forwards for crosses
Curving the ball with the inside of your foot
Dangerous runs when teammates have time and space
Over-committing on defense
Dummy turn
Slip passes in behind defenders (straight pass to a diagonal run)
Work rate, heart, and desire on defense
Angle back crosses
Burst of acceleration from the passer on a give and go
Early crosses bent in behind defenders
Slotted crosses along the 6-yd box
Ball striking - long diagonals to switch play
Overhit through balls
Demand the ball with both visual and verbal communication
Reactive vs proactive players
Overlaps
We don’t want cheerleaders, players watching the play - look to make something happen
Conviction and purpose from forwards to get the ball in the box on the dribble
Time and space out wide - get the ball in the box with an early cross
Get the ball past the “garbage cans” into the space behind defenders
Defenders pressure then delay - can’t dive in
Attacking the crosses
Forward movement away from the crosser first - force the defender to either watch you or watch the ball
Getting on the backside of the defender
