Weekend in Wisconsin - Day 1
Off to the ol’ stomping grounds in Milwaukee for a one-off game vs FC Wisconsin.
According to the know-it-all Siri, it’s going to take me nearly 5 days to get there if I walk.
Good to know.
Played with the Milwaukee Wave for one season in the professional indoor league in 94/95. Had a lot of fun in this town - playing and living just off the UWM campus with teammates Amos Magee, Donny Gramenz, and Tony Sanneh.
Hadn’t been back in 25 years, so got here late morning on Friday to take a walk down memory lane, visiting our old place, our main coffee shop, and driving by some of our late night haunts down on Water Street.
Heading up to Germantown to check out the field for tomorrow, then back to the hotel to do some work and await the arrival of the team for a meeting that evening.
We played FC Wisconsin last April in Chicago, ending up 1-0 - in a 40 mph wind, and in a game that we could have won 5-0.
Honestly, on paper, we should probably win this game 5- or 6-0, but that doesn’t mean crap once the whistle blows.
The hotel is a nice one. Right next to the Mayfair Mall in the west suburb of Wauwatosa and, much to the misfortune of my ever-expanding waist line, we share a parking lot with The Cheesecake Factory, home of the World’s Best Dessert - the Pineapple Upside-Down Cheesecake.
I’ll likely have 3 of those in the 2-day span we’re here.
Gotta always support the local businesses, I guess.
Darn.
