Online Video Analysis - USWNT vs Colombia
Online Training | Wednesday, Aug 11 | 7:00PM - 8:00PM
Our second preseason online video analysis session tonight.
Here’s what we touched on in our 30-min session.
Ball forward on kickoff - overloading one side
Winning the 2nd ball
High offside line
Upper body over the ball when hitting volleys
Communication to teammates
Multiple peeks over your shoulder, scanning, bc the game is changing behind you every second- peek before the pass comes (anticipation), peek as the pass is on its way
Understanding of when a switch of play is happening, getting width
Attackers holding their runs, not in dangerous spaces too early
Benefits of timing of runs off crosses (losing defenders)
Visual communication - pointing to open teammates
Getting the ball into the danger area in front of the goal
Benefits of dribbling into opponent’s penalty areas
GK - using fists to punch the ball away vs using a flimsy, open hand
Pausing on the ball, letting the play develop around you
Crosses across the 6-yard box
The closer you get to the end line, the more you have to angle back your cross
Benefits of making something happen, taking risks in the attacking 1/3
Movement on throw ins
Whipping crosses in with pace
Quick release shots in crowded areas in front of goal
GK - diving diagonally forward to cut the angle
Taking a chance running in behind defenders for a flick through
GK - Controlling the whole penalty box
Outside backs overlapping and getting into the attack
Defensive heading up and away, attacking heading down at the goal line
Importance of concentration, even if the goal looks wide open
Work rate, attitude, heart, and desire to keep the ball alive in our opponent’s danger area (box)
Redirect finishes
Early crosses in behind defenders
Benefits of putting a pressure or a body on someone taking a shot - throwing them off
Strikers getting in the danger area, anticipating
Flick/glancing headers
This is all about helping the girls understand the game better; understand how the game is played. Sessions like this also help reaffirm the coaching points that they hear me say over and over again in training - shows them exactly what I mean when I’m talking about angle back crosses, switching the point of attack, off-the-ball movement, etc.
